Betteh Lyfe is an innovative healthcare program based on our Empower Health care model, which aims to improve the lives of patients, families, and communities with diabetes and hypertension Sierra Leone.
Betteh Lyfe spawned from our strategic partnership with Sanofi and the Christian Health Association of Sierra Leone (CHASL).
Betteh Lyfe is an innovative healthcare program based on our Empower Health care model, which aims to improve the lives of patients, families, and communities with diabetes and hypertension.
This multi-country partnership will leverage Medtronic LABS’s greatest strengths, including our tech-powered healthcare delivery solutions, local field operations/implementation expertise, and patient engagement/education processes.
Sanofi, another key partner of ours, delivers affordable health systems to screen, diagnose, risk-stratify, manage, enroll, treat, and support patients afflicted by hypertension and diabetes.
The most rewarding aspect of our work is seeing patients in remote communities have access to regular BP and BG checks at their doorsteps rather than traveling miles to access remote health facilities. Their gratitude is both a reward and a motivation for us to do more to reach underserved patients.
Idrissa Cole, Head of Field Operations, Sierra Leone at Medtronic LABS Sierra LeoneScreening initiatives allow us to promote awareness surrounding hypertension and diabetes simultaneously. We leverage our proprietary SPICE technology platform to optimize community screening and point-of-care diagnostics.
Upon enrolment, patients receive a customized risk score calculated using the WHO-approved clinical algorithm. The risk score ensures a deeply personalized care plan for each patient in the program.
Community Health Volunteers then follow up with patients to monitor blood pressure and blood glucose. Patients inform the CHVs by participating in tailored tele-counseling, SMS-based programming, and peer support groups right from their community.
For example, if a patient registers a high reading during a CHW follow-up visit, the clinician is immediately notified. Clinicians can then follow up with patients directly via telemedicine, where they’re empowered to prescribe medication digitally, edit the patient’s care plan, and more.
The platform’s ability to function offline allows us to reach communities and patients who were previously unreachable.
We designed SPICE to be completely adaptable to align with the unique workflows of our diverse health system partners.
Our telecounseling platform empowers data-driven follow-ups and insights that patients need most.
We work in close collaboration with health systems, governments, local innovators, companies, NGOs, funders, and more to build cross-sector partnerships. Sign up to stay updated on all the latest news and events.
