3 Highlights from the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting

The World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting (WEF) is a time to drive public-private cooperation at the highest level, convening over 100 governments, all major international organizations, and leading global companies. This year, the focus was on an important concept: Rebuilding trust.

Under that theme, the agenda addressed restoring collective agency and reinforcing the fundamental principles of transparency, consistency, and accountability among leaders.

Medtronic LABS’ President Ruchika Singhal was there discussing why social innovation matters for business, digital and artificial intelligence (AI) health, breaking barriers to healthcare access, and more.

Here are some highlights from the week.

Social Innovation Matters

We have long believed that the path to a sustainable future requires concerted, collective action across sectors. We’re a proud signatory of the Rise Ahead Pledge, which was announced during the Annual Meeting.

Singhal joined Geoff Martha, Medtronic CEO and Chairman, for a panel on why social innovation matters for business. The duo highlighted the impact of the unique relationship between Medtronic and Medtronic LABS.

With Medtronic’s support, we have reached over 1.6 million patients, providing sustainable and localized healthcare solutions.

Another recognition highlighted the power of the private and public sector coming together. Medtronic LABS and Singhal were named a Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship Social Innovator of the Year.

Rebuilding Trust in Healthcare Technology

Kearney and FemTechnology announced a commitment to challenge institutional gender inequalities and shape the future of public and private healthcare for those it has failed for far too long.

We were honored to be one of the first signatories on the open letter.

“Women are the backbone of healthy families and communities. True health system transformation is only possible with women at the center. In our work at Medtronic LABS, we see the inequities women face across the globe, but we also see the possibility of a better future: one that is equitable, tech-enabled, and patient-centered. We are honored to come together with leading innovators to call for – and work toward – meaningful change.”

Rebuilding Trust in Healthcare Technology

Singhal spoke at Axios House about AI – and how to build trust in digital health.

“For me, it’s been very much about the human connection: Building those bridges, showing up and problem solving together, and understanding each other’s needs and perspectives to co-design solutions,” she said.
