Shruti

Shruti, meaning ‘what is heard’, in Sanskrit, is our social venture transforming access to ear care through partnerships.

Overview

Shruti is a social business that combines the power of technology and partnerships to address disability for underserved populations.

Shruti focuses on ear disease and hearing loss utilizing a community health worker-based service model, enabled by point of care diagnostics, hearing implants, and our SPICE technology platform.

We believe in working alongside health systems to strengthen and augment existing services. Shruti is a close partner with state government programs in Kerala, Delhi, Punjab, and West Bengal.

In India where 80% of healthcare delivery is private, we also work with hundreds of private hospitals, audiology centers, and clinicians across India that share our mission to expand access to services for the underserved.

How it works

Community screening

Our field operations experts work alongside Shruti-trained community health workers (CHWs) to screen patients for ear disease or hearing loss directly in the community.

CHWs leverage our screening kit which includes a proprietary mobile otoscope, audiometric test, and low-cost hearing aids integrated with our Spice platform. CHWs collect patient history, take a photograph of the inner ear, and conduct a test for hearing loss to provide a preliminary diagnosis.

Referral and Counselling

Based on the preliminary diagnosis, CHWs refer patients to appropriate care at Shruti partner clinics.

Shruti Telecounselors follow-up with patients to ensure that they have the information and support they need at every step of their journey.

Affordable and Accessible Treatment

Patients then engage in services customized to their unique care plan.

Once a patient arrives at a partner clinic, the clinician confirms the preliminary diagnosis and works with the patient to create a tailored treatment and care plan. Patients can access discounted treatments or therapies, including surgeries, medicines, hearing aids and more.
